# Education data resources

## Basic education

* **DBE schools masterlist:** [spreadsheets](https://www.education.gov.za/Programmes/EMIS/EMISDownloads.aspx) with detailed information on every school in each province of South Africa.
* **DBE basic education statistics:** in pdf [reports](https://www.education.gov.za/Programmes/EMIS/StatisticalPublications.aspx) which analyse data from the SNAP Survey for Ordinary Schools, Annual Survey for Early Childhood Development (ECD), Learner Unit Record Information and Tracking System (LURITS) and Provincial Data Warehouses.
* **DBE National Recruitment Database of Qualified South African Educators** [here](https://www.education.gov.za/Informationfor/Principals/NRD.aspx), lists the details of educators who are currently seeking employment across all provinces.
* Provincial departments of education **vacancy pages** e.g. [Free State](http://www.education.fs.gov.za/?page_id=1283)
* **SNAP Survey of Ordinary Schools 1997-2016:** annual collection of data from all schools on learner and educator numbers, staff type, gender and remuneration. Hosted by Datafirst. 
* **National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations 2010-2016:** performance of learners in NSC examinations, by subject and examination center. Also [hosted](https://www.datafirst.uct.ac.za/dataportal/index.php/catalog/685/) by Datafirst.
* **NSC Examination reports** [**2018**](https://www.education.gov.za/Curriculum/NationalSeniorCertificate\(NSC\)Examinations/ReleaseofNSCExamsResults.aspx)**:** School Performance Report and Schools Subject Report.
* **Stats SA education statistics** such as those gathered as part of the General Household Survey (GHS) and 2016 Community Survey. See [Nesstar](http://nesstar.statssa.gov.za:8282/webview/) webview for data.

## Higher education

* **DHET publishes a variety of statistics on** higher education institutions (HEIs) (largely universities), TVETs, CETs and SETA learning programmes. Covers student enrolments, staffing, examination results and graduations, and NSFAS and other funding distributions. * [**NSFAS research reports**](http://www.nsfas.org.za/content/research-reports.html) provide aggregate stats on funding allocation, labour market absorption
* **DHET** [**registers**](http://www.dhet.gov.za/SitePages/DocRegisters.aspx) of skills development providers, private higher education institutions and private colleges. * **Organising framework for occupations (OFO)** [list](http://www.dhet.gov.za/SitePages/DocPublications.aspx) of job categories and descriptions.
* [**Public TVET colleges**](http://www.dhet.gov.za/RegionalOffices/educational-institutions/technical-vocational-education-and-training-colleges-tvet-colleges.html) contact information and GPS location.
* **South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)** hosts [lists](http://www.saqa.org.za/) of Professional Bodies, Professional Designations, Trades, Qualifications, Unit Standards.
* [**Centre for Higher Education Trust**](https://chet.org.za/) has sourced, analysed and visualised data from DHET related to universities and colleges in South Africa (and Africa). \[the CHET site seems to be unavailable but you can see a [snapshot from 2017 here](https://web.archive.org/web/20171031181100/https://www.chet.org.za/data/sahe-open-data)]
* **Individual university institution data** such as University of Pretoria tuition and residence [fees](https://www.up.ac.za/fees-and-funding).
* **DHET** [**PSET Research Repository**](http://www.psetresearchrepository.dhet.gov.za/Welcome) \[link error] has "links to electronic theses and research publications including articles, conference proceedings, working papers and some research articles".
