## Listed company reporting

**Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE)** Stock Exchange News Service (SENS) can be accessed [here](https://clientportal.jse.co.za/communication/sens-announcements). You can also [view by company or 'equity issuer'](https://clientportal.jse.co.za/companies-and-financial-instruments) such as [Steinhoff](https://clientportal.jse.co.za/companies-and-financial-instruments/issuer-profile?issuermasterid=2039) or [AB InBev](https://clientportal.jse.co.za/companies-and-financial-instruments/issuer-profile?issuermasterid=4305).&#x20;

**Many South African companies are also listed on international exchanges**, such as in the U.S. Filings from companies with their 'Principal executive offices' located in South Africa can be accessed on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's [EDGAR](https://www.sec.gov/edgar/search/#/locationCode=T3) (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval) system. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange is also a popular listing for South Africa-linked companies for which you can view specific [profiles](https://www.boerse-frankfurt.de/equity/steinhoff-international), along with relevant news and announcements, similar to the JSE.

## Legal records

The **Southern African Legal Information Institute (SAFLII) database** of court cases can be [searched](http://www.saflii.org/cgi-bin/search.pl) for specific companies.

**South African Revenue Service (SARS)** [dispute resolution and judgements](https://www.sars.gov.za/legal-counsel/dispute-resolution-judgments/) such as [Tax Court judgments](https://www.sars.gov.za/legal-counsel/dispute-resolution-judgments/tax-court/).

## Registers of companies, trusts and individuals

**Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)** has an [entity search](https://eservices.cipc.co.za/) where you can look up information about a specific company using enterprise name, number of director ID.

**Master of the High Court** hosts a [Trust Search](https://www.justice.gov.za/master/icms.html) via its Integrated Case Management System (ICMS) Web Portal. You can also search for deceased, liquidation, curator and insolvency via the same link.

**International databases and registers** are also useful for accessing information on companies (and individuals associated with companies) based or operating in South Africa.&#x20;

* OECD [Analytical Database on Individual Multinationals and Affiliates (ADIMA)](https://www.oecd.org/sdd/its/measuring-multinational-enterprises.htm) aggregates data from multiple sources (some of which listed below)
* Global list is available on [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_official_business_registers)
* [OpenOwnership](https://register.openownership.org/) aggregates beneficial ownership information from various sources
* European Union (EU) company registers for several countries are accessible via this [central search facility](https://e-justice.europa.eu/content_find_a_company-489-en.do)

There is a people with significant control (PSC) snapshot which is a [downloadable data snapshot](http://download.companieshouse.gov.uk/en_pscdata.html) containing the full list of PSC's provided to Companies House.&#x20;
* [Open Corporates](https://opencorporates.com/) is a commercial company search facility

**Institute of Directors South Africa (IoDSA)** [publishes PDFs of registered and chartered directors](https://www.iodsa.co.za/page/certification_main).

The Tax Justice Network runs a [**Financial Secrecy Index**](https://fsi.taxjustice.net/en/explore/overviewmap) which lists South Africa's [adherence with several registers of information](https://fsi.taxjustice.net/database/dbr_Jurisdiction.php?Juris=ZA\&Per=20).&#x20;

## **Sector-specific tools and registers**

**National Credit Regulator (NCR)** provides access to [databases of registered](https://www.ncr.org.za/register_of_registrants/index.html) (and cancelled/ lapsed) credit providers, debt counsellors, credit bureaus, alternative dispute resolution providers, and payment distribution agencies.

**Construction companies** are registered with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). Access the register[ here.](https://portal.cidb.org.za/RegisterOfContractors/)

**Mining company** activity for South Africa is available via the [list of operating mines by Province](https://www.dmr.gov.za/mineral-policy-promotion/operating-mines).&#x20;

**Other sectors** have their own registers for providers such as in [healthcare](https://opendataza.gitbook.io/toolkit/open-data-resources/healthcare-data-resources) (e.g. licensed pharmacies, doctors and therapists).
